Color therapy is used to treat all kinds of mental and physical problems. While certain colors can energize you, others can help heal emotional pain. They play a very important role in our lives. The colors you choose to wear say a lot about who you are. So, it is important to choose colors of clothes that match.

The color chart

When you are choosing clothes opt for color combinations that are harmonious. You need to choose a core color that is prominent, and accent colors that complement the core color. The three primary colors are red, blue and yellow. Combined in pairs they form secondary colors, orange, green and purple. If you were to make a color chart, you would have shades of orange between yellow and red. Shades of purple will be found between red and blue. And finally shades of green will lie between blue and yellow. Colors that lie opposite each other are complementary. These include red with green; blue with yellow or orange. Adjacent colors such as blue and green also look great.

Color combinations

Red, yellow and orange are warm colors, while green, blue and violet are cool ones. You can try combining two warm colors with a cool one or cool colors with a warm one. If you are wearing neutral colors like brown, grey, black and white, it may be a good idea to add brighter accent colors. Choose your core color according to the look you want to achieve. Wear darker colors to look slimmer and lighter shades to give an appearance of size.

Seasonal colors

You may choose to wear seasonal colors such as pastel shades in the summers and warmer and brighter hues in the winter. Burgundy, rust and green are some of the autumn colors.

Mix and match

Match colors to create a range of looks. You could combine a dark formal skirt with a fun and bright top to create a semi formal ensemble. Here are some tips on mixing and matching:

  • Solid colors are easier to mix and match with rather than printed ones. A few pants and skirts can be paired with a range of tops that will suit almost any occasion.
  • Use scarves, belts, hand bags and other accessories to add color to your outfit.
  • Avoid matching bright colors, and also wear no more than two or three colors at one time.
