Should you get your hair cut short?

Whether it is the rising mercury in the summer or a change in fashion that motivates you to cut your hair short, here are a few things to consider before the scissors get snipping. It is important to consider the shape of your face to decide on the kind of hair cut that will suit it. You also need to consider how short you can cut your hair. Usually all face shapes look great with a short hair cut. The only exception is with a round face, and then a hair cut that ends below the chin is a better idea. In such a case it is best to wear your hair long as it tends to make your face look longer.

What haircut fits you!

A great haircut can do wonders to your appearance. It can not only highlight your best facial features but also downplay any weak ones. The way you feel about yourself and the world in general has a lot to do with how you look. And a great hair cut can make you feel confident and smart. To decide which haircut fits you, you would need to consider the shape of your face. Here are some haircuts that suit different face shapes.

  • Oval face: With an oval face you can carry off just about any haircut, long as well as short. As the face is well balanced it would be best to ensure that the haircut accentuates the shape rather than covers it up.
  • Heart shaped face: This type of shape is characterized by the chin which can seem pointy. The face is widest around the forehead. Short haircuts and those that end at chin length are great as they frame the face well. Full styles are best avoided as they focus on the forehead.
  • Square face: A strong jaw line is prominent in the square face. It is best to avoid long hair or cut it into a bob as these styles focus on the jaw line. For a balanced look that softens the appearance of the face, opt for a short to medium length haircut. Wavy and curly hair makes it easier to achieve just the right cut and look for a square face. If you have straight hair, your stylist may recommend a body wave.
  • Round face: To make your face look more balanced a haircut with layers that frames the face well is recommended. In other words, your hair cut should keep the hair close to your face and give it a softer and longer look. A fringe will also look great on a round face. Chin length hair and middle parting are avoidable.
  • Rectangular face: Short and medium lengths look great on a rectangular face. On the other hand, long hair would make the face look longer. A short or medium length haircut in layers offers your face a softer and fuller look.
  • Triangle face: A triangle face is the broadest at the chin and the best styles are those that add volume at the temple and are cut short at chin length. Layers in the hair are also great for a triangle face, while center parting and haircuts full at the chin should ideally be avoided.

You may also wish to get a haircut to emphasize on certain features and draw attention away from others. The texture and type of hair would also need to be considered to select a haircut that complements the face.
